Sanquin CLB's department of Autoimmune Diseases has a longstanding record in researching various aspects of rheumatic diseases, both in cellular immunology (e.g. cytokines) and in serology (e.g. autoantibodies). Through this research, know-how of serological tests as well as of immunoregulatory mechanisms is abundantly present. The lasting collaboration with major Rheumatology clinics has facilitated numerous (clinical) studies of immunological concepts in rheumatic patients.
New therapeutic principles in rheumatic diseases specifically aim at intervention in the immune regulation of these diseases (e.g. anti-TNFa and soluble TNFa-receptors). Measurements of the cytokine/interleukine repertoire is an essential aspect in the development and application of such new therapeutical interventions.
Sanquin CLB's department has an extensive portfolio of advanced tests available to this field. In addition, scientific specialists are avail-able for the design and implementation of
tailor-made test-systems for specific clinical trial objectives.
