Ruben Baumgarten MD PhD

Ruben Baumgarten, born in 1969, graduated from medical school at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1994. During medical school he did a research project at the group of Peter Agre, (nobelprize chemistry 2003) at the department of Biochemistry at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, US. In the Netherlands he received clinical training at the Radboud University Hospital, Nijmegen, where he also finished his PhD-thesis. During 1998-2002 he was trained in Laboratory Medicine. After working in a few hospitals, also as head of the Department of Clinical Chemistry & Hematology, he became director of Diagnostic Services at Sanquin, starting april 2008. Ruben Baumgarten is also chairman of the Dutch Society for Laboratory Physicians, board member of the Dutch Organisation for Medical Specialists, professional auditor for Laboratory certification and supervisory board of a clinic for handicapped people.
