You can put yourself forward as a new blood donor at the blood bank in your region by telephone, in writing or through the notification form on this site. You cannot give blood unannounced, because you must be registered in our computer and must undergo an extensive examination as preparation for your first donation.
Safety first
In order to be able to inform you as well as possible about the examination and the blood donation, information brochures that you can read at your leisure will be sent to you after the notification. This is done for the safety of the patients who will receive a blood transfusion in the future, but it is also for the sake of your own safety that you read the information thoroughly before you give blood. You will subsequently receive an invitation from us to come for an initial examination. There will still not yet be any donation after this examination, which will be performed by a donor physician, because the results of the examination must be known before you are allowed to give blood.
Registration of your data
The registration of your medical data falls under medical confidentiality. The blood bank will not supply any part of this information to third parties without your permission (written or otherwise). The registration of your personal data falls under the Personal Data Protection Act. Our methodology is recorded in a Privacy Regulation that is available for inspection by the donor physician. The blood that is used for the treatment of patients is indirectly traceable. This means that your personal data are not on the blood products, but that only the blood bank can recover this through a code number. Since it is very important for the safety of blood transfusion that the identity of the donor is well monitored, we will ask about your personal data at every treatment. |
